Woman arrested after house fire believed to be sparked by explosive container

Cat found dead inside home

MIAMI – A 25-year-old woman was arrested Thursday after throwing an explosive container into a window of a Miami house, causing a fire, police said.

Firefighters and police were called to the home in the 1700 block of Northwest 68th Terrace on Wednesday night.

Miami Department of Fire-Rescue Capt. Ignatius Carroll said heavy flames and smoke were seen coming from the home. A collapsed roof and instability of the walls forced firefighters to battle the flames from outside the home.

No was injured and no one was found inside the home. However, the body of a dead cat was found inside.

Miami police identified the woman as Grace Seaberry. She faces charges of arson, shooting or throwing a deadly missile and making, possessing or throwing a destructive device.

Investigators believe the fire stemmed from a fight between squatters.

A man who lives in the neighborhood said he's seen the woman before and is just happy to know that nobody died in the fire.

"I don't know much about her," he said. "I just seen her in the neighborhood, but, you know, it's tragic. I'm just glad nobody died. You know, it could have been worse."

Police said Seaberry ran from the scene upon their arrival, but they caught up to her a few blocks away.
