Man details takedown of would-be robber

Allan Gordon, friend take down assailant in Coral Gables

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – A man who helped take down an armed robber spoke exclusively to Local 10 News about the incident that prompted him to take action.

"I watch viral videos all the time and, you know, it's crazy that I'm now part of one," Allan Gordon said.

Gordon, 22, was grabbing a late night bite with his best friend when a man with bad intentions walked through the door.

"He starts pointing on the ground saying, you know, 'Get on the ground, empty your pockets or I'll shoot you,'" Gordon said.

It was 4:30 a.m. Saturday at the Downstairs convenience store in Coral Gables when Jovon Reddick, 32, came in to rob the place, police said.

"The only logical action that I can take in that situation is do what he says," Gordon said.

That was until Gordon's best friend took control.

"Once I see that that's happening, that he's charging him and that he's defending us, I instantly step in, and at that moment, I knew there was no other choice but to bring this guy down," Gordon said.

Gordon's friend hit Reddick with an iced tea bottle and the two quickly brought him down, tying Reddick's shoes together to keep him from fleeing.

"I was on top of him in a full mount position," Gordon said.

Coral Gables police arrived and arrested Reddick.

Reddick begged a judge Sunday to let him out on bond.

"I've got to take care of my dog and mom at home," Reddick said. "I'm an organic eater and I'm, like, starving in this place."

But Reddick is staying locked up without bond for the time being. As for Gordon, he said he's happy that the action he and his friend took turned out for the best.

"It gives me chills every time I watch it, but I'm also proud of myself and the person I call my best friend," Gordon said.
