According to an arrest report, Sands met the victim Nov. 14 while she was sitting in front of a Food & Grocery Store at 4521 W. Hallandale Beach Blvd. in Pembroke Park.

The victim told detectives that she recognized Sands from the neighborhood and he offered to allow her to charge her cellphone in his pick-up truck.

Because it was late at night, Sands also offered the woman a ride home, to which she agreed, detectives said.

According to the report, Sands drove the victim to a nearby warehouse complex, forced her to enter a warehouse bay and raped her and forced her to perform oral sex on him after threatening her with a knife.

Broward sheriff's deputies said the woman attempted to escape multiple times, but Sands punched her in the face and choked her until she lost consciousness.

The woman told detectives that Sands told her he was "going to teach her how to work (as a prostitute) the correct way."

According to the report, Sands drove the victim to a Marathon gas station the next day, at which time she jumped out of the truck and ran to her house, which was nearby.

The victim called 911 and was able to identify Sands in a photo line-up.
