HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – Two students were charged with possession of a firearm on school property after a weapon was found Tuesday at Apollo Middle School.
Two Broward County schools were placed on lockdown after the gun was found on the school's campus, police said.
Police said a student took the handgun to school and showed it to another student. Other students who saw the two with the gun reported it to security. Police said that's when the two tried to hide the weapon under a portable.
Police said a security guard at the school notified police, who found the handgun.
Nearby Hollywood Park Elementary School was placed on lockdown as a precaution.
Police said all students were safe, but they did not disclose whether the gun was loaded.
"During this time, all students remained safe and at no time was anyone threatened or in danger," Broward County Public Schools spokeswoman Nadine Drew said.
All students were dismissed from school on time.
Police said the weapon was stolen, but it's unclear how the students got it. Both students were charged because they both handled the weapon, according to police.
