Man taken into custody after short police pursuit in Hialeah

Alan Suarez, 43, stunned with Taser while resisting arrest, police say


HIALEAH, Fla. – A man was taken into custody Tuesday after allegedly assaulting an officer and leading police on a short pursuit in Hialeah.

Police said an officer who saw a vehicle at NW 43rd Terrace and NW 30th Avenue with dark tinted windows conducted a stop on the vehicle.

When the officer approached the driver's side of the vehicle, Alan Luis Suarez lowered the window, turned the steering wheel toward the officer and accelerated the vehicle, police said.

According to the Miami-Dade Police Department, the officer had to push himself away from the vehicle to avoid being run over

Police said a pursuit began as Suarez headed northbound on NW 30th Avenue, but Suarez lost control and crashed into a parked vehicle.

Suarez put up a struggle and police said an officer was forced to use his Taser on him

Sky 10 was above the scene just before 4 p.m. as the man was handcuffed and placed into the back of a Miami-Dade police cruiser.

Police said Suarez caused three car crashes while fleeing from police, including one that involved a Hialeah police vehicle. No injuries were reported.

Suarez faces charges of vehicular battery on a police officer, resisting arrest and several traffic infractions.
