Purse snatched from woman at Westfield Broward Mall Macy's

Thief gets away with $2,000 in cash

PLANTATION, Fla. – A woman was visiting South Florida from Tampa when a thief snatched her purse inside a Macy's store bathroom, getting away with $2,000 in cash.

The incident was reported Friday night at the Macy's at Westfield Broward Mall.

"(I was inside the stall for) three minutes at the most," Patricia Pisel said.

Pisel said she hung her purse on the hook inside the stall and someone reached over the top and snatched it.

"Real smooth and real fast and real good to do that," she said

Pisel's wallet, IDs, credit cards and cash were inside the purse.

She said the purse held $2,000 in cash that she intended to use for her son's birthday.

Plantation police said Macy's security team admitted that they were already watching a woman whom Pisel said was in the bathroom at the same time for previous thefts at the same store.

"If they were watching her, why weren't they outside the door when I came out?" Pisel asked.

Anyone with information about the theft is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
