Beauty Salons of America employees paid after 'big miscommunication'

Spokeswoman for company cites payroll issue as reason for delay

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – Employees at Beauty Salons of America in Dadeland Mall have been paid after what a company spokeswoman called a "big miscommunication."

Beauty Salons of America spokeswoman Ana Rivera said the staff was supposed to be paid Friday, but because of a payroll issue involving the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday, they were instead paid Tuesday morning.

"These things happen in business," Rivera said in an email to Local 10 News.

Rivera sent payroll receipts to Local 10 News as proof of payment.

Employees took Local 10 News reporter Hatzel Vela to the Beauty Schools of America location where they pick up their paychecks, but a woman who worked there asked Vela to leave. Rivera said Beauty Schools of America share "a common owner and the same payroll processor" as Beauty Salons of America.

The employees who spoke to Vela said they hadn't been paid all month and that it isn't the first time that they haven't received paychecks.

Rivera said the Dadeland Mall employees "were all paid in full for the (months) of December and January."
