Bomb squad called to Biscayne Elementary School

Unattended backpack deemed safe by authorities

Police were called to a Miami Beach elementary school Thursday afternoon after receiving reports about an unattended package that was found on campus.

The bomb squad arrived to Biscayne Elementary School, 800 77th St. and later determined that the backpack found near a school fence had nothing harmful inside.

A Miami-Dade County Public Schools representative said all students were evacuated from the school as a precaution.

Sky 10 was above the scene as children were sitting on a basketball court outside the school. They were escorted back inside at 1:25 p.m.

Miami Beach police said school would be dismissed at its regular time.

Police did not immediately disclose the contents of the backpack.
