Miami-Dade commissioner fights for designated parking for veterans

Commissioners unanimously support legislation Thursday

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Miami-Dade County commissioners unanimously supported legislation Thursday to provide designated parking spots for U.S. veterans who live in the county.

The legislation, sponsored by Commissioner Rebeca Sosa, would implement the parking program at properties owned and operated by the county.

"We are so proud of our veterans. They are all heroes who have served our country and defended our freedom," Sosa said. "As a society, we must continue to find ways to demonstrate our appreciation. Providing them with parking is just one small step towards showing them our support and admiration."

The administration is expected to produce a report that would detail the feasibility of implementing the program and approaches for encouraging municipalities and the private sector to offer similar parking privileges for veterans.
