Man held for questioning in northwest Miami-Dade hit-and-run

Injured woman taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A man was being held for questioning Friday in connection with an early morning hit-and-run in northwest Miami-Dade County.

According to police, the driver had been drinking at a nightclub before he got behind the wheel of his car.

Detectives said the driver's white Chevrolet Impala jumped a sidewalk near Northwest 79th Street and Fourth Avenue shortly before 5 a.m. and struck a 30-year-old woman.

The driver, identified as Trenton Lloyd Jackson, 29, is also accused of running into a fence and parked cars in a used car lot, damaging five vehicles. Police said the force of the crash tore off the Impala's front bumper.

Surveillance video from a nearby business shows the victim get struck by the car. It appears that she tried to climb the fence to get away before getting struck and tossed in the air.

Witnesses said the driver got out of his car and was pacing around the street before he left.

"He was just walking up and down here, and then he heard the police sirens ... and then he left," James said.

Officers later found an abandoned Impala with similar damage outside the apartment where the man's girlfriend lives, near Northwest 82nd Street and Northwest Miami Court.

Police arrived to find Jackson running out of the apartment naked, apparently after taking a shower.

He was taken into custody and hospitalized at Jackson Memorial Hospital under the Baker Act. Detectives said Jackson will be charged with leaving the scene of a crash resulting in bodily injury.

The victim was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital with a broken femur.
