Crash kills man crossing South Federal Highway in Fort Lauderdale

Victim pronounced dead at hospital, police say


FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A man died after being hit by a pickup truck while crossing South Federal Highway, Fort Lauderdale police said Sunday.

According to investigators, the victim was walking across the northbound lanes of the road, in the 1800 block, when he was struck by a 2015 black Ford pickup truck, shortly after 7:40 p.m. Saturday.

The victim, identified as Jeffrey Kwolik, 48, was taken to Broward Health Medical Center with what police said were life-threatening injuries. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The driver of the pickup truck remained on scene and cooperated with investigators.

Police said it did not appear that alcohol was a factor in the crash; as of Sunday morning, no charges had been filed.
