Police continue search for driver responsible in crash

MIAMI – Surveillance video of a hit-and-run crash that hurt several people early Saturday morning has been released.

Witnesses reported to police that a Chevrolet was illegally parked in the middle of Northwest 17th Avenue about 3:30 a.m. Some of the passengers got out of the vehicle and went into a liquor store. As they returned to get back into the vehicle, a Mercedes-Benz rear-ended them.

The impact of the crash can be see in the surveillance footage.

"I got a broken collar bone," victim Shekita Lashawnda Frank told Local 10 News reporter Michael Seiden in a telephone interview from her hospital bed. "I got bruises all over my back. I got all my toes broke."

Perrisha Jean was another victim.

"As they were putting their legs in, the car just smashed us from the back," she told Local 10.

Police identified the driver as Jose Calzadilla. Two people remain at Jackson Memorial Hospital in serious condition. Police said he is speaking with an attorney and is preparing to turn himself in.

"He's an animal," Jean said. "He has no heart."
