Ahea of historic meeting, patriarch honors Jose Marti

HAVANA – Russian Orthodox Patriarch Kirill had a busy Friday morning in Havana, Cuba.

Kirill's first meeting was with Fidel Castro, 89, delegate to the Seventh Cuban Communist Party Congress, and his brother Cuban President Raul Castro.

Before his meeting with Pope Francis, who was on his way from Rome, the 69-year-old patriarch wore a black robe and a white headdress to visit students with disabilities, attend a ceremony at the Jose Marti memorial and visit a Soviet memorial.

While Pope Francis will travel to Mexico, Kirill will travel to Paraguay and Brazil.
