Autopsy confirms couple found dead in submerged car drowned

Bodies of Alexandra Picon, Brandon Arana found inside car submerged in lake

Alexandra Picon and Brandon Arana drowned after the car in which they were traveling crashed into a southwest Miami-Dade County lake.

MIAMI – A missing couple found dead inside a submerged car in a southwest Miami-Dade County lake earlier this month drowned, autopsy reports confirmed.

Autopsy reports obtained Tuesday by Local 10 News list the cause of death for Alexandra Picon and Brandon Arana as drowning.

The bodies of Picon and Arana, both 21, were found Feb. 4 inside a red Toyota Corolla in a lake near Southwest 268th Street and Southwest 107th Avenue. The discovery was made after one of their cellphone signals led police to the lake.

Picon and Arana met for a drink after work the weekend before and never returned home.

It appeared that the car crashed through a guardrail before ending up in the water. The crash site wasn't far from Arana's home.
