16-year-old killed in rollover crash on I-95

2 others hurt in crash near Copans Road


POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – A teenager was killed and two others were hurt in a rollover crash on I-95 late Wednesday night in Pompano Beach. 

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, James Miller Jr., 16, of Fort Lauderdale, lost control of a 2001 Buick Century in the southbound lanes south of Copans Road just after 11 p.m. The car went off the highway and slid into an embankment, striking several trees. 

A passenger, Washika Whiteydale, 17, of Fort Lauderdale, died at the scene.

Miller and another passenger, Zaccai Ferguson, 15, were taken to Broward Health Medical Center, where they are listed in critical condition.

No one in the car was wearing a seatbelt, according to the FHP report.

The crash did not appear to be alcohol-related, although the cause remains under investigation.
