FIU fires women's basketball coach Chinn

Chinn admitted to violating NCAA bylaws

SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE – FIU has fired head women's basketball coach Marlin Chinn.

The school said Chinn was terminated for cause effective immediately.

Chinn's dismissal comes after he admitted to university officials that he had violated NCAA bylaws regarding impermissible benefits provided to a student-athlete.

Chinn spent just one season with the Panthers, leading the team to a 5-26 record.

The move comes just weeks after FIU team captain Destini Feagin accused Chinn of sexual misconduct and of loaning her $600.

FIU opened an investigation into the charges.  It was revealed soon after that Feagin had previously been suspended by the team weeks earlier.

Tiara Malcolm will serve as interim head coach until a permanent coach is named.
