Palm Beach International Airport briefly evacuated after suspicious luggage found

Flights out of airport delayed; arriving flights held on tarmac

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach International Airport has reopened after it was briefly evacuated Friday afternoon because of a suspicious piece of luggage that was found unattended near one of the baggage carousels.

Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Teri Barbera said the bomb squad inspected and safely removed the luggage.

Flights departing from the airport were delayed, while flights arriving at PBIA were being held on the tarmac.

Barbera said the airport returned to full operation by about 5:15 p.m.

PBIA has about 100 departures daily from 28 gates.

Airport spokeswoman Cassandra Davis did not immediately return a call seeking comment.
