Arrest warrant issued for man accused of killing estranged wife in Miami-Dade County

Joe Louis Padgett, 54, accused of shooting wife multiple times on Sunday

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Miami-Dade police have issued an arrest warrant for a man they believe killed his estranged wife Sunday in southwest Miami-Dade.

According to Miami-Dade Police spokeswoman Marjorie Eloi, Katrina Padgett was at her mother's home about 9:30 p.m. in the area of Southwest 268th Street and 128th Avenue when she was confronted by her estranged husband, Joe Louis Padgett, 54.

Eloi said there was an argument and Joe Louis Padgett pulled out a gun and began firing at his wife and her mother.

Eloi said Katrina Padgett was shot multiple times and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Padgett's mother, Sophia Cheeks, was not injured in the shooting.

Police said Joe Louis Padgett fled the scene before officers arrived. They said he should be considered armed and dangerous.

Anyone with information about Joe Louis Padgett's whereabouts is asked to call Detective Jose Gonzalez at 305-471-2400 or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS. A reward of up to $3,000 is being offered for information that leads to an arrest and conviction.

Joe Louis Padgett is expected to be charged with first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder when he is found.
