Johnny Kurtz accused of stomping on man's head in Miami Beach

Victim in coma after attack, authorities say

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – A man is facing an attempted murder charge after he stomped on another man's head in Miami Beach last month, authorities said.

The incident was reported Feb. 6 in the 1000 block of Ocean Drive.

According to an arrest report, Johnny Lee Kurtz, 32, was found by officers later that night wearing blood-stained socks and shoes.

A records check revealed that Kurtz had an active out-of-county arrest warrant. Police said Kurtz provided false information to officers, but he was seen on surveillance video near where the victim was attacked.

Police said the victim's DNA was found on Kurtz's socks and a witness identified Kurtz as the person who attacked the victim.

The victim was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center. At last check, he remains in a coma, authorities said.

According to the report, Kurtz admitted to owning the bloody shoes and socks, but denied being involved in an altercation or having any knowledge of the victim.

A motive for the attack remains unclear.
