Alvarez was taken to Broward Health Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Broward Sheriff's Office deputies said the other driver, Jack Bellino, 28, remained at the scene and was questioned about the shooting.

According to detectives, Bellino and Alvarez were traveling on the roadway in opposite directions near Bellino's home when Bellino might have accidentally swerved into Alvarez's lane.

Deputies said Alvarez, who was in his car with his girlfriend, got angry and made a U-turn to pursue Bellino.

Homicide detectives also questioned Alvarez's girlfriend and said her statements were consistent with what Bellino and witnesses said. According to detectives, cellphone video taken by Alvarez's girlfriend also suggests that the shooting was a result of self-defense.

The case has been turned over to the state attorney's office, which will determine whether charges will be filed.
