HIALEAH, Fla. – Three people were arrested Wednesday after they attempted to rob an 85-year-old man and his wife outside their home in Hialeah, police said.

The incident was reported shortly after 2 p.m. in the 6400 block of West Eighth Court.

Police said the victims were unloading groceries from their car when they were approached by three men.

After the failed robbery attempt, one of the suspects pistol-whipped the man, causing a laceration to his head, police said.

Detectives said a Hialeah police officer spotted the men driving away in a white Buick Century, which the suspects bailed out of in Opa-locka.

Percy Alan Thompson, 26, Angelo Johnson, 22, and the accused getaway driver, Roosevelt Brockington, 31, were arrested in the area of Northwest 22nd Avenue and 135th Street with the help of Opa-locka police and Miami-Dade police.

"We recognize and commend the work of all the officers who responded to this call," Hialeah Police Chief Sergio Velazquez said. "Each and every one of their duties played an integral part in this investigation. Because of their commitment and duty to the community, three more dangerous criminals and a firearm, have been taken off the streets. Once again the brave men and women of the Hialeah Police Department have demonstrated to our community their resilience in protecting the great City of Hialeah."

Police said Johnson was found with the gun used to pistol-whip the victim.

All three men face charges of attempted armed robbery.
