Man dies after crash in Hialeah

Driver of pickup truck hits construction worker

HIALEAH, Fla. – Leonel Chacon, Jr., said he last saw his dad Friday night. On Saturday morning, he stood at the Hialeah street where he died while working construction.

Leonel Chacon, 55,  was working on a boom lift between Red Road and Palm Avenue. Frank Castillo, the driver of a Dodge Ram pickup truck, was heading westbound on Northwest 138th Street when he hit the boom lift near West 18th Lane.

Chacon was part of a crew doing road work in the area, Hialeah police spokesman Sgt. Carl Zogby said.

The force of the impact caused Chacon to fall off the boom lift. The driver stopped to render aid, but Chacon, who was working for Condotte America, died on the street, his son said.

Hialeah police officers were investigating the crash.
