Man arrested in Marathon after stealing $250,000 boat, FWC says

Boat reported stolen Tuesday from Matheson Hammock Marina

MARATHON, Fla. – A man was arrested Tuesday for stealing a $250,000 boat from Matheson Hammock Marina in Miami, authorities said.

According to Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission Officer Bobby Dube, the owner of the boat reported it missing about 7 p.m. Tuesday and said it was heading toward the Florida Keys.

Dube said FWC received information that the boat was off Plantation Key and heading toward Marathon. He said the boat owner provided authorities with updated locations of the boat until crews were able to stop it off Grassy Key.

Ociel Del Rio, 38, of Miami, was arrested and taken to the Monroe County jail.

He faces a felony grand theft charge.

The 2012 33-foot Invincible Marine was brought to the U.S. Coast Guard Station in Marathon for the owner to retrieve.
