Woman struck by car while trying to get dog out of road

Pomeranian pronounced dead at scene; woman taken to hospital


TAMARAC, Fla. – A woman was struck by a car Monday while trying to get her dog out of the road, Broward Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Gina Carter said.

The incident was reported about 6:50 a.m. just west of the intersection of West McNab Road and University Boulevard.

According to Carter, the victim was walking three dogs when one of the dogs, a Pomeranian, got off the leash and ran into the road.

Carter said the woman stepped into the road to retrieve the dog and was struck by a car.

The dog was pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman was taken to Broward Health Medical Center with serious injuries. She was taken into surgery and is expected to survive.
