According to an arrest report by the Florida Highway Patrol, Broward sheriff's deputies stopped Matthew Sheppard, 26, who was driving a Chevrolet Tahoe, and detained him until troopers arrived.

Troopers said two people inside a white pickup truck said they were sideswiped by the Tahoe while they were stopped on the exit ramp.

The victims said they approached Sheppard, who became confrontational and he pointed a handgun at them.

They said Sheppard then returned to his vehicle and drove away.

Deputies stopped Sheppard in the 100 block of West Atlantic Boulevard and retrieved a Sig Sauer P250 from the center console of his car.

According to the report, the gun had a 12-round magazine, with one in the chamber.

Troopers said Sheppard claimed that he didn't know that he had sideswiped the truck and that one of the victims had punched him in the face, so he grabbed his gun.

Sheppard said he never pointed the gun at the victims, authorities said.

Troopers said the gun does not belong to Sheppard and he did not have any swelling or bruising on his face.

He was arrested on charges of improper exhibit of a firearm and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
