Man uses toy gun in attempted robbery in Lauderdale Lakes, deputies say

Victim realizes gun is fake, refuses to comply with robber

LAUDERDALE LAKES, Fla. – A man who operates a mobile car-washing business was too clever for a robber who attempted to hold him up with a toy gun, deputies said.

The attempted robbery was reported just after 8 a.m. March 18 in a parking lot at 2782 NW 29th Terrace.

Newly released surveillance video shows a silver BMW pulling into the parking lot where the victim, known as Caesar, operates his business.

Broward Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Gina Carter said the driver got out of his car, pointed the toy gun at Caesar and demanded his property.

Caesar realized that the gun was fake and refused to comply with the robber's orders, Carter said.

According to detectives, the robber took a fighting stance against the victim, but quickly thought better of it and drove away empty-handed.

Carter said Caesar was not in the area when authorities arrived.

Anyone with information about the attempted robbery is asked to call Detective Marcos Ruiz-Toledo at 954-321-4553. Anonymous tips can be made to Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS. A reward of up to $3,000 is being offered for information that leads to an arrest and conviction.
