2 injured in shooting in King Carter's apartment complex

Witnesses say man, woman seen fleeing complex after shooting

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Two people were injured Monday night in a shooting in the 1200 block of Northwest 103rd Lane, Miami-Dade police said.

Jessica Jean, 23, was shot in the head and Calvin Wright, 27, was shot in the chest and left arm during the shooting, which happened in the same apartment complex where King Carter, 6, was shot and killed while playing outside in February, Detective Marjorie Eloi said.

"We heard every shot," King's father, Santonio Carter, told Local 10 News.

The victims were taken to the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital. Eloi said they were both conscious and breathing.

"It's getting out of hand," Carter said of the recent gun violence.

Witnesses told police that a man and a woman were seen running from the apartment complex after the shooting.

Police said Jean and Wright are expected to recover from their injuries.

A motive for the shooting remains unknown.

"All I can say (is) stop it," Carter said.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
