Man accused of dousing adopted son with chemicals on I-95 in 2011

Jorge Barahona is accused of killing his adopted daughter and dousing her twin brother with chemicals in 2011.

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – A man accused of trying to kill his 10-year-old adopted son by dousing him with chemicals on the side of Interstate 95 in 2011 will have his trial in Miami.

Palm Beach County court records filed Monday show that Jorge Barahona will now face trial in Miami-Dade County. He is charged with attempted murder and aggravated child abuse.

Barahona requested that the trial be moved to Miami-Dade County in 2014, but the state objected.

Victor and Nubia Barahona were 10 years old when they were discovered on Valentine's Day 2011 awash in chemicals in their adoptive father's truck on the side of Interstate 95 in West Palm Beach. Nubia was dead, her body wrapped in plastic in the bed of the truck. Victor was barely conscious and convulsing in the front passenger seat.

Their adoptive father and his wife, Carmen Barahona, are also charged in the death of Nubia. They face separate trials in Miami-Dade County, where authorities said the twins were abused and tortured by the Barahonas for years despite numerous complaints to the Florida Department of Children and Families.
