Man robs Sunrise beauty supply store at gunpoint

Victim struck over head with gun after refusing to hand over cash, police say

SUNRISE, Fla. ā€“ Sunrise police are searching for a man who robbed a beauty supply store at gunpoint.

The robbery was reported about 1:45 p.m. May 4 at the Discount Corner Beauty Supply store at 1079 Sunset Strip.

Surveillance video shows the man entering the store and pointing a gun at a store clerk.

That clerk, Abdul Al Jenabi, told Local 10 News that he was getting ready for his afternoon prayer when he was confronted by the robber.

"He put it like this and he come and put it in my chest," Al Jenabi said. "He come and said, 'Give me the money. Give me the money.' And I said, 'For what I give you money?'"

Police said the man demanded money from the cash register, but Al Jenabi initially refused to comply with the man's orders, so the robber struck Al Jenabi over the head with his handgun.

"He hit me very strong. Very strong," Al Jenabi said.

Police said the clerkĀ  handed over about $1,000 from the register.

Al Jenabi was taken to a hospital and received two staples on his head.

Authorities said the robber left in a possibly beige, older-model two-door Saturn.

Anyone with information about his identity is asked to call Detective Ryan Reardon at 954-746-3558 or call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
