Teen escapes after assaulting Miami-Dade County Public Schools police officer

16-year-old boy suspended from Georgia Jones-Ayers Middle School for fighting

MIAMI – A 16-year-old boy escaped from police custody Wednesday after he assaulted a Miami-Dade County Public Schools police officer, authorities said.

According to police, the teen had been suspended from Georgia Jones-Ayers Middle School for 10 days earlier this week for fighting.

Police said the teen was being arrested for trespassing on school grounds.

As the handcuffed boy was being placed into a police cruiser, he struck an officer, knocking him against the side of the car, police said.

Police and K-9s searched the area for the boy, but they were unable to find him.

"I saw a couple of police cars flying by. They were going around and around," a woman who lives in the area told Local 10 News.

The arresting officer was not injured.
