Miami-Dade police major relieved of duty, with pay, after son's drug arrest

Department launched internal investigation on Maj. Arnold Palmer

DORAL, Fla. – Miami-Dade police Maj. Arnold Palmer,  whose son was arrested May 6 on drug-related charges, has been relieved of duty, with pay, as the Miami-Dade Police Department conducts an internal investigation.  

The department isn't releasing the nature of the allegations against the officer, as they're still under investigation, Detective Marjorie Eloi said.

Palmer's son, Tyler Palmer, was arrested on charges of dealing drugs, including marijuana and cocaine, after police raided the major's home.

Arnold Palmer oversees the economic crimes bureau and has relatives who are employed by the police department, authorities said.
