Burglar steals $5,000 musical keyboard from Miami church

Thief throws rock through window of church to get inside

MIAMI – Police are searching for a burglar who they said broke into a church overnight in Miami.

The burglary was reported Wednesday morning at Bethany Baptist Church of Miami at 787 NW 54th St.

"It is unexpected to see people come into the house of the Lord and do such a thing," the Rev. Salim Auguste said.

Police said the thief threw a rock through a window of the church and targeted musical equipment. Motion detectors were set off and scared the burglar away.

Police said the thief left with a $5,000 musical keyboard but probably would have stolen more equipment if the alarm hadn't gone off.

"We still pray for that person so God might change his heart and return the keyboard," Auguste said.
