HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Hallandale Beach police have arrested a man wanted in connection with the 2014 shooting death of Florida State University professor Daniel Markel.
Sigfredo Garcia was taken into custody Wednesday on an outstanding warrant by the Tallahassee Police Department.
Markel died in July 2014 after being found in his Tallahassee home with a gunshot wound to the head.
Broward County jail records show that Garcia was booked into the main jail on charges of first-degree murder and cocaine possession.
Tallahassee police Chief Michael DeLeo said the probable cause was sealed, so he was unable to reveal details about what led to Garcia's arrest.
DeLeo said Garcia was awaiting extradition to Leon County.
