BIG COPPITT KEY, Fla. – A woman from Big Coppitt Key was arrested Wednesday on a warrant for beating an 8-year-old boy who put dirty clothes in a dryer, Monroe County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Becky Herrin said.
Herrin said deputies were notified April 21 by the Department of Children and Families about the incident.
Herrin said the boy told detectives that Marina Vega, 27, hit him in the face and on the side. He said he lay on the floor because it hurt, and she stomped on his stomach.
Herrin said the boy said that Vega was wearing flip-flops and "thank you, God, not normal shoes because it would have hurt more."
Detectives investigated the claims and issued a warrant for Vega's arrest this week.
She was arrested Wednesday on child cruelty charges.
Her relationship to the boy was not immediately released.
