Girl in critical condition after being found at bottom of Coral Springs pool

8-year-old taken to hospital in critical condition

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – An 8-year-old girl is in critical condition after being found at the bottom of a swimming pool during a family gathering Sunday in Coral Springs.

Coral Springs Fire Department Division Chief Mike Moser said rescuers received a call shortly before 5 p.m. that a child was pulled from a pool in the backyard of a home in the 8200 block of Northwest Second Manor.

"This young lady was swimming in the pool with some of her other relatives and doing some tricks at the bottom of the pool -- handstands, holding their breath and playing around in the pool," Moser said. "They noticed her at the bottom of the pool for just a short period of time, and when she didn't surface, they had one of the other children check on her and when she was not responsive, adults jumped in and pulled her out and started CPR."

It remains unclear whether the girl's parents were home at the time.

The girl was taken to Broward Health Medical Center, where she remains in critical condition.
