BISCAYNE, Fla. – Officials said a person was injured Sunday while diving into a shallow pool near Nixon Beach.
Crews said they arrived at the scene at 3:28 p.m. and saw a person in the water being helped by several swimmers. Witnesses said the person had tried to dive, but the water was shallow and the person hit the bottom.
The injuries are considered dangerous.
Two divers went into the water and put the person onto a backboard to prevent worse injury to the spine. The person was put onto the fire boat and taken to Bill Bags Park No Name Marina.
Officials urge people to be extremely careful when diving into the water without knowing the depth. Spinal injuries caused by accidents can have very serious consequences.
