Man dies in attempt to escape from Miramar police

Patrick Louissant dies after jump off 3rd floor

MIRAMAR, Fla. – Patrick Louissant and three others broke into a Walgreens to steal medication in Miramar early Friday morning, according to the Miramar Police Department.

Walgreens security reported the four to police, and officers responded to 2499 Palm Ave. The suspected burglars ran and sped away in a car going southbound in the northbound lanes of University Drive.

Miramar Police spokeswoman Tania Rues said the driver stopped north of Riviera Boulevard. The four suspects got out of the car and jumped into a canal near Utopia Drive.

After a swim, police caught up to them and they were arrested. Once at police headquarters, Louissant  provided a false identity, and he ran away when he was being questioned about it.

Rues said Louissant jumped from the third floor of the parking garage. And he fell onto the sidewalk. Miramar Fire Rescue took him to Memorial Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He was 27.
