Relatives contact police a day after boy found wandering streets of Miami

Boy found shirtless Thursday night

MIAMI – Two relatives of a toddler found wandering the streets of Miami contacted police Friday, a day after he was found, authorities said.

Derrick Bolton, 3, was found about 8:45 p.m. Thursday in the area of Northeast Second Avenue and 49th Street.

He was found shirtless, wearing just shorts and flip-flops.

Police searched for the boy's parents for two hours before turning him over to the Department of Children and Families.

Police said Derrick was never reported missing, but his aunt and grandmother went to police headquarters Friday after news broke that he had been found.

The women are speaking with investigators.

Police said the boy will remain in DCF custody until at least an upcoming court hearing.
