WILTON MANORS, Fla. – A pickup truck crashed into a Wilton Manors home Tuesday morning.
Sky 10 was above the scene of the crash in the 2600 block of Powerline Road.
The driver of the truck told Local 10 News reporter Sanela Sabovic that he was trying to avoid several cars in front of him that braked suddenly and he lost control of his truck.
Kemel Bandhu was the only person inside the home at the time when the crash occurred.
"I was freaking out," Bandhu said. "I hear the loudest crash you could ever hear. You know what I mean? I wasn't expecting it. I thought the roof collapsed."
Bandhu said he was tending to his pet cockatoo when the driver plowed into his home. Bandhu narrowly escaped from being hit.
"If I was standing there, right at that very spot, 10 seconds more, I would have got hit by blocks or God knows what," he said.
The driver stayed at the scene. He said there were two cars in front of him, so he tried to stop, but the road was wet and he lost control.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, but neighbors said speeding in the area has become a major problem.
For now, Bandhu is relieved that the crash wasn't worse.
"It was a genuine accident," he said. "Thank God he's OK. Nobody got hurt."
The driver was cited for following another vehicle too closely.
