WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – A West Palm Beach man stomped on his pregnant girlfriend's head last week after she asked him to leave her apartment, police said.

Maruice Roland, 28, faces a charge of aggravated battery on a pregnant person.

West Palm Beach police said Roland's girlfriend woke up Wednesday and found that her keys were missing. Because Roland was the only person home when she went to sleep, she called him and asked him to return them.

After he returned with her keys and she asked him to leave, Roland became upset and began throwing items around the apartment and breaking furniture, police said.

Roland pushed her onto the bed and stomped on her head with his feet, police said.

His girlfriend wasn't able to call 911 at the time because she was afraid of Roland finding where she hides her phone in the bedroom, police said.

Roland admitted that he broke furniture in the apartment, but he told police that he never hit her, police said.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Roland's girlfriend was nine months pregnant with his baby.

Police said his girlfriend declined medical attention.
