2 dead in mobile home fire near Fort Lauderdale

Family of 3 live at home, neighbors say

BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. – Two people were killed in a mobile home fire early Tuesday morning near Fort Lauderdale.

The fire started about 3 a.m. near Southwest 44th Terrace and Southwest 18th Street.

Broward Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Keyla Concepcion said at least two people who live in the home were pronounced dead.

According to neighbors, a mother, a father and a teenage girl live at the home. Sonny Somar told Local 10 News that he saw the smoke and called 911.

"I say, 'I hope they are not inside that place; they will die,'" Somar said.

Somar knocked on the door, but no one answered. When firefighters arrived, they found two bodies inside the home.

"We have two people that died in the fire tragically," BSO Department of Fire Rescue spokesman Mike Jachles said. "A third person that resided in the mobile home has been accounted for safe and sound."

The victims have not been identified, but a seventh grader said he rides the bus and goes to school with a teenager who lives at the home.

"It's kind of sad. It's not something to expect around here," Kenneth Colon said.

Authorities would only confirm that a male and female died in the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
