Airbnb connects travelers with Cuban 'casas particulares'


HAVANA – Short-term rental platform Airbnb has been in business in Cuba since April 2015. And the island's casas particulares, the Cuban version of a bed and breakfasts, are taking advantage of it.

The San Fracisco-based company claims they have connected about 13,000 users with accommodations on the island. About 50 percent of the travelers booked from California, New York and Florida.

Their site lists about 4,000 casas particulares -- about 2,500 in Havana, some 330 in Trinidad, 200 in Vinales, 150 in Santiago de Cuba and 95 in Santa Clara.
