1 teen injured, 1 killed in Liberty City shooting

Both teens taken to Ryder Trauma Center, where 18-year-old woman pronounced dead

MIAMI – Two teenagers were shot Thursday night in Miami's Liberty City neighborhood.

The 17-year-old boy and 18-year-old woman, who relatives said are cousins, were shot just before 9 p.m. near Northwest 66th Street and Northwest 12th Avenue.

"Right now we're not sure if they're related to each other," Miami Department of Fire-Rescue Capt. Ignatius Carroll initially said. "The question came up whether or not they're students at nearby schools, all of that is in the early stages of the investigation. We're trying to determine that now."

Carroll said the woman, identified as Antquinisha Flowers, wasn't breathing when rescuers arrived.

Her mother told Local 10 News reporter Christina Vazquez that another child of hers alerted her to what happened.

"(They) said, 'Nisha got shot,' and I just ran out the door and I just saw my baby laid out on the ground," Shantell Flowers said. "I can't talk to her no more. I can't do nothing with her no more."

Antquinisha Flowers' girlfriend was also devastated when she learned that Flowers had died.

"(She was) loving, caring, always there and she promised, she promised, and she left me," Tiara Reese said.

Both teens were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center. Flowers was pronounced dead upon arrival to the hospital.

The boy, identified by relatives as Arthur Mann, was alert and talking to police. He is listed in stable condition.

A motive for the shooting was not immediately known.

Anyone with information is asked to call  Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
