FBI offers $5K reward for 'Filter Bandit'
FBI: In 2 years, suspect robs 9 bank branches in Broward County
BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. – FBI special agents believe the "Filter Bandit" hit his ninth bank in Broward County on Friday afternoon. And they were offering $5,000 for information leading to his arrest and conviction.
The relentless "Filter Bandit" was involved in nine armed bank robberies in Plantation, Tamarac, Coral Springs and Davie, according to the FBI. They accuse him of taking cash from Chase Bank, TD Bank, SunTrust Bank and BB&T.
The first in his profile was two years ago. There were seven last year and the most recent was about 5:30 p.m. Surveillance video shows the suspected "Filter Bandit" at a SunTrust Bank, 9501 Wiles Rd., in Coral Springs.
"It is believed that the get-away car was a Toyota Corolla, gray in color," FBI Special Agent Michael Leverock said.
Authorities said he displayed a weapon, demanded money from a bank employee and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash. He didn't fire his weapon and no one was hurt.
He did the same during the first robbery they pinned on him at Chase Bank branch, 10195 Cleary Blvd., in Plantation, Aug. 9, 2014.
After the holiday season, he started the New Year with a robbery in Plantation. Surveillance video shows a man covering his face after opening the door at TD Bank branch, 1800 N. Pine Island Rd., Jan. 7, 2015.
He returned to rob the same bank on Valentine's Day, according to authorities.
Authorities believe he robbed a TD Bank branch, 7001 Commercial Blvd., in Tamarac, March 16, 2015.
Days later, he wore the same disguise to two bank robberies. One was at TD Bank branch, 6001 N. University Dr., in Tamarac and the other at the SunTrust Bank branch, 1890 University Dr., in Coral Springs.
The "Filter Bandit" wore a black hooded sweater and grey sweatpants when he robbed a BB&T branch, 13636 W. State Road 84, in Davie, June 16, 2015, according to the FBI.
He is also accused of robbing a SunTrust branch, 1890 N. University Dr., in Coral Springs, Aug. 20, 2015.
He appeared to have stayed away from robbing banks for more than a year. And on Friday, he was back. This time authorities got a description of his get-away vehicle.
Leverock was asking anyone with information to call 754-703-2000 or Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
