Man shot inside BMW on Palmetto Expressway in Miami Gardens

Victim's brother says he was heading home from a party

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – A person was shot in the leg early Tuesday morning in Miami Gardens, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue officials said.

The shooting happened on the Palmetto Expressway near Northwest 47th Avenue.

Authorities said the victim was behind the wheel when at least one of the bullets pierced his car door.

The bullet went through the white BMW SUV and into the driver's leg, Florida Highway Patrol troopers said.

Troopers shut down the westbound off-ramp from the expressway to 47th Avenue as Miami Gardens police spoke to a number of drivers who pulled over on the side of the highway.

"What happened? Were you in this car?" Local 10 News reporter Layron Livingston asked a man who was sitting in the back of a car.

"Man, no. I wasn't in the car," the man.

The man told Livingston that the victim was his brother, who he said was on his way home from a party.

He said he had no idea what led up to the shooting before rolling up his window.

Police said the victim stopped his car on the exit ramp to 47th Avenue and was taken to Aventura Hospital.

The SUV was towed away.

The victim's condition has not been released.

No arrests have been made.

Anyone with information is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
