Police search for those involved in fatal Miami nightclub shooting

1 dead, 3 hurt from gunshot wounds

MIAMI

Witnesses said it sounded like a lot of fireworks Saturday morning in Miami.

It turned out the sounds were actually gunshots coming from El Nuevo Romance Restaurant & Night Club at Northwest 36th Street and 35th Avenue.

Michael Tito Lorenzo, 24, was pronounced dead when first responders arrived, and two men and a woman were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center to be treated for gunshot wounds.

Another person broke his leg trying to escape the gunfire.

"This happens like every week at the club across the street, so it's a regular around here," the woman said. "Somebody's always getting shot or killed."

"We know that there was an exchange of gunfire here," Miami police Officer Rene Pimentel said. "There’s several different casings from different weapons."

One witness said there needs to be an increase in security in the area.

"I think they need to monitor this area or shut the club down," the witness said. "Because it's really not safe."

Miami police are searching for the people involved in the shooting.

"We don't have any suspects at this time," Pimentel said. "However, we do need the public's help because, obviously, there were plenty of people out here during this incident."

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
