Wynwood restaurant offers free lunch for pregnant women

Zak the Baker hands out meals as 'Welcome Back' gift

MIAMI – With the Wynwood neighborhood in Miami declared Zika-free, one restaurant is doing its best to welcome back visitors to the area.

Zak the Baker offered up free lunches to pregnant women on Monday.

Pregnant women are considered to be the most vulnerable to dangers of the virus, with birth defects attributed to Zika.

Gov. Rick Scott said that mosquito-control efforts over 45 days have enabled the dismantling of the Zika containment zone, meaning the virus is no longer an active concern in the neighborhood north of downtown Miami.

Located at 405 N.W. 26th Street, Zak the Baker wanted to celebrate that they, along with other Wynwood establishments, are back in business.

Scott said that his own office plans to host a celebration in Wynwood on Sept. 30.
