LAUDERDALE LAKES, Fla. – A parking lot became a crime scene Sunday after a deadly shooting. Broward sheriff's deputies say a man was fatally shot in the parking lot of a Lauderdale Lakes Walmart store a little after 2 p.m.
"I pulled up and I seen everybody crying over this dead body," witness Orga Espady said "So pretty much somebody got shot in their head over probably a small altercation in the parking lot."
The man, identified Monday as Kennedy Lee, 50, was rushed to Broward Health Medical Center as a trauma alert -- and was later pronounced dead at the hospital. Customers we spoke to say the sight of the active police scene was startling.
"You don't know if the perpetrator is still out there. You don't know what you're walking into" one customer said.
"Yeah it's scary, it's scary." Espady said.
Customers were kept out as the Broward Sheriff's office put up tape around the crime scene. Investigators placed markers and even took a car tire into evidence, replacing it with a spare, and labeling graze marks left by bullets.
"They're also looking for any kind of a surveillance evidence that they can capture from the parking lot, within the store and surrounding businesses," said Gina Carter of the Broward County Sheriff's Office
Questions remained Sunday night about what led to the shooting, which occurred in the middle of the afternoon on a busy shopping day.
"We don't know why these men were in the parking lot. We don't know if they knew each other. We don't even know if there was any kind of confrontation prior to the shooting," Carter said.
