Darrell McWilliams faces charges of sexual battery, armed robbery

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – A homeless man was arrested Thursday after he threatened to kill a woman with a box cutter and sexually assaulted her in Miami Beach, police said.

Darrell McWilliams, 32, faces charges of sexual battery with a deadly weapon, armed robbery and false imprisonment.

Miami Beach police said McWilliams attacked the woman Sunday night on the beach near 21st Street.

According to an arrest affidavit, McWilliams grabbed the woman from behind, pushed her to the ground and repeatedly threatened to kill her with the box cutter.

Police said McWilliams removed the woman's shorts, ordered her to take off her underwear and sexually assaulted her.

At some point during the assault, the woman noticed that McWilliams had dropped the box cutter, and she punched and kicked him and ran to a nearby business for help, the report said.

The woman was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center, where she was treated.

Police said McWilliams admitted to sexually assaulting the woman after he tried to rob her. He was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
