Davie police catch 7-foot-long alligator

Gator caught in parking lot near University Drive

DAVIE, Fla. – The Davie Police Department got reports a 7-foot long alligator was walking around a parking lot Saturday near University Drive.

The apartment complex where police reported finding the animal has a network of lakes and is near the Everglades Wildlife Management Area.

The department shared a picture of the American alligator on Twitter. A towel covered the animal's head. Tape held its four limbs and its tail flexed aggressively at an angle.

The American alligator, a solitary and territorial animal, can grow about 14 feet long and can eat mammals as large as a deer.
